Nova Open: Jawaballs will be in the house!

Great news! After some sweet talking to the wife, and paying her 100 bucks, plus having to cancel on Bolscon and a week of moping around the house like a kid who lost his Buzz Saw cassette. (Name the reference and I will be impressed!) I was able to get permission to go to the Nova Open! This event is turning out to be a veritable "Who's Who" of the 40k Blogosphere with some big names showing up. I can't wait to meet up with other dudes at the Whiskey Challenge on Friday Night. I will be playing Old Shattered Hands and his Tau scum. Time to purge me some xenos! I will plant my Chapter Banner and claim the day! Be looking for some Jawaballs Live! if I can make it happen.

Can't wait for a great weekend. Time to make up for some missed fun last week. :)

Ramping up the commission work.

Hey folks, It has been a while since I posted here, but I wanted to let you know that with September around the corner, I will be ramping up my commission work. Now is your time to get lined up to have Jawaballs do a job for you!

New Commission finished! Black Templars Marshal in Terminator Armor

So a client purchased this model that was beautifully greenstuffed and one of a kind. Then he asked ME to paint it. It is a terminator model, with BT shoulder pad and green stuffed robes and sashes. He also had a GS shield and hammer with spikes and chains.

First thing I did was remove the chains. They were about his waste and dangling down one leg. They were cool except for the fact that they got in the damn way. Then I removed the head of the hammer. It was more of a mace, and looked inappropriate for a thunder hammer. I replaced it with a normal TH head. Finally, I pulled out the head. It was greenstuffed, and looked ok, but you could see that it was obviously flat on the back and had no ears. It looked silly. I replaced it with the bald head from a terminator box set.

So I primed black and went to work! TO make him stand out, I painted the shoulders red, and also the insides of the cloaks, ala, Sword Brethren from the codex. The rest was fairly simple. Robes, blakc highlighting, red crusader seals. I did my standard lightning effect and voila!

If you are looking for a commander painted for your army, I do them for about 100 bucks. I charged quite a bit more for this one because of the gentle touch needed for Greenstuff, the fact that it was already assembled, and the fact that I would be required to do a lot of modeling myself. I think he came out great and I know the buyer will be pleased!

Finished Dante Commission

Here is my most recent finished Dante commission! This paint job will cost you 85.00 plus the model. If you want you can buy your own Dante and send me the unassembled model. I assemble the model for you, pin the jump pack and weapon to the body, and pin the model to a free Jawa-base! 85.00 includes the cost of shipping the model to you. If I have to provide the model you will also have to pay that shipping cost. Costly yes, but I think the results are worth it!

New Commissions!

Here are a couple of commissions that I am working on. First of all, a blog reader was so impressed with the Dante that I did for my last commission, he just had to have his own! He mailed me his Dante model and 85 bucks. In return, he will get as beautiful a Dante as I can paint mailed back to his door within a week! The cost includes painting, pinning, assembly, a jawabase, and return shipping.

A second commission I am working on is a Calgar and Honor Guard. This one has been the biggest request so far with about 5 guys asking for it... I started with this model to work up my skill before moving on to the standard bearer and champion and then Calgar. I am painting him quickly but clean, in order to leave time for some free hand on the cloak. I have about an hour left to spend on this model and stay in budget, but I really just have the weapons, backpack and cloak to finish and then some final details.

Well there you go! Thats all from the Jawaballs workbench for today. I will be starting another large blood angels army soon, and am always ready to take smaller jobs. If you cannot afford my prices for an army, at least you can afford your commander!

Not a lot to show this week. I finally received the first wave of stuff for this commission and started assembling the assault squad. No pics of them though. Here are a few pics of what I have been painting, a tactical marine and the two tactical squad sergeants. Next week will be a big update. Hope you enjoy!

Commission 001 Update 3

Ok, here is the last update for a week or so. I will be away for a while camping! The vindicator is almost finished. The customer is quite fond of crisp highlights. So that is what he gets! I did some scumbling to blend in the edges, then went over them all with an extreme highlight. The next step is to go in and do the detailing, and then do some hand painted numbers, icons and other stuff and it is finished!

Of course the Ott light and the digital cam get show way too many details that are not visible to the eye. Trust me, it looks nicer in person! :)

Commission 001 Update 2

Here is a nice little update. I plan on putting up one every week. Since I just got the order in for the stuff, this one only includes what I had on hand. I am using two veteran models from the Space Marin Veteran box set as part of the "Conversion Budget". The customer wants his Sergeants to have power fists, so I ripped open a Command Squad to equip one of these guys.

The Vindicator so far was primed white, then painted red with a Citadel tank brush. Then I scumbled the edges with blazing orange, and highlighted the edges with fiery orange. Then I washed with Baal Red, then hit the red parts with Blood Red again, then scumbled with Blazing and edged with fiery again. Redundent I know, but the layering creates a beautiful glow when on a gaming table. The end should have some deep shadows that transition smoothly from dark to light. THis one already blows away the one I use sometimes in my army... :) Once the entire tank has been shaded and highlighted, I am going to do some weathering. I will hit some of the edges with metalic scrapes. The customer requested minimal hand painting, but I will do something expressive on the Dozer blade. My Blood Angels tend to be much more orange then the ones depicted on the GW site. But I personally feel that my style is very striking and reaches out and grabs the viewer. In the pictures that the customer chose from my models to represent the look he desires, He chose clean edged highlights and rich shading. The kind that really looks sharp on a nice gaming table! I will hopefully have some really good pics next week! Enjoy.

Jawaballs' first Commission!

I will upload pictures of my first commission here, with permission of the customer. Since I just got started with this army, I only have a few pics to show. For my first commission, I accepted the task of painting 41 Blood Angels and two tanks, including Commander Dante. Since I happened to have this Vindicator and some marines on hand, I got started with them. Included with the price of the commission, each model will be posed on a Jawa-base! You will see a finished picture of one of the jawa-bases. I paint in stages of assembly, so you will see a marine legs and torso at a near state of completion. I just have to go pick out the details, then mount him on the base. The Vindi has been primed and base coated. The next step will be to add Blazing Orange scumbling on the edges, then wash with Baal Red. There you go! More to come.
